The Sunset Bar

Welcome to the Sunset Bar (Let it Snow!)

Some of you will get the "Let it Snow" reference and for those of you who don't, if you ever hear it at the Sunset Bar then you know you'e in the right place with awesome staff! The Sunset Bar is a great place to start or end your day. We typically we use it for both. It is outside, yet still somewhat covered from the sun and rain. It is located at the aft of the ship on deck 15 for Solstice Class ships. M-Class ships have "Ocean View Bar" which serves a very similar purpose and this is on deck 10, aft.

What can I order at Sunset Bar?

Sunset Bar has most of whatever you'd want. They have a good selection of whiskey and cognac mainly because there are many people who spend the evenings up here. They do have a blender so making blended drinks is an option. Since they typically open at 10am they can easily accommodate bloody marys, screw drivers, mimosas, etc. There is beer, wine, and mixed drinks plus a separate drink menu you can order from as well.

Cigars - One side of the Sunset Bar you are allowed to smoke in. This is not at the actual bar, but instead off to the side so the smoke blows in another direction. You are allowed to smoke cigars here and the ship does sell cigars and the bartenders have cutters and typically lighters for you to use.

Does Sunset Bar get crowded?

It definitely gets crowded for sail away. It is a great place to watch a sail away because you can not only view the aft of the ship but also the starboard and port sides as well. Usually during sail aways from ports there is someone there playing guitar or singing. It makes for a great atmosphere.

You'll also notice the bar get crowded some evenings. On our last cruise we would head up to the bar after dinner (or the show) and have a cognac and sometimes a cigar. Sailing in the fresh ocean air with stares above you and a drink in your hand is a fantastic way to spend an evening.

What if I want to sit and enjoy the view and not drink?

Not drink?! Absolutely N....Yes, yes you can. The staff will not try to push drinks on you, they'll simply be attentive. Feel free to come up, grab a chair and sit back and relax with a book, your iPad, Kindle, etc. On the S Class the Sunset Bar boarders part of the lawn and many times games or different activities are being held on the lawn so its fun to just sit, watch, and relax.

Tips & Tricks

I usually sit at the bar as I find the service to be quicker and I get to know the bartender, as I've mentioned before. You'll notice that many times the bartender working here may work in the Martini Bar, Ensemble, or Pool Bar on the ship. So you may see a familiar face.

If you don't see a liquor you want, ask them about it. Many times they have liquors in the cabinets behind the bar that simply weren't set out yet.

Ask the bartender about any tastings they might be having (for a fee). We did a wonderful Cigar & Rum tasting one afternoon with a fantastic group of people. The cost was quite minimal (I believe $25pp) and it was a great time. Usually the tastings here will be rum or whiskey based and may or may not have a cigar pairing with it.

What do I normally drink at the Sunset Bar?

In the morning I'm drinking a Ketel One Screw Driver (Ketel One and Orange Juice). In the evenings I'm either drinking cognac if it is to be my last drink of the evening or a whiskey.
